Andrew Taylor - Wolds Brass Ensemble

After graduating with a BMus (Hons) at the University of Huddersfield, Andrew has enjoyed a varied musical career. Andrew started his musical journey by learning the cornet with Alford Silver Band and still plays regularly with them, despite his demanding role as the principal cornet of Skegness Silver Band. He later received tuition from trumpet virtuoso and respected brass teacher, Steve Walker.

During his time at University, Andrew had the pleasure of playing with many brass bands including Holme Silver, Kippax Band and Yorkshire Co-op Brass Band; the latter where he can be heard on the recording Ten! 10. His most memorable musical experience was to accompany Katherine Jenkins at rugby league’s Super League final at Old Trafford when he was playing with the Yorkshire Co-op Brass Band.

Upon returning to Lincolnshire, Andrew has featured in many musicals including Crazy for You, 42nd Street, Oliver!, Oh, What a Lovely War!, Twang!! and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Working alongside the talented pianist Josh Wilkinson, Andrew has also performed in solo recitals. Andrew now enjoys playing trumpet with Wolds Brass.

Andrew is currently an Accredited Teacher, working for the Music and Performing Arts Service in North East Lincolnshire, delivering private, small group tuition and Wider Opportunities. Recently, he is focusing his attention on bringing music to a younger audience, delivering workshops and demonstrations in primary and secondary schools. As the Musical Director of Brass Tracks and Brass Roots, it is his vision to bring younger and older people together, providing them with the opportunity to learn a brass instrument and make music together. In addition to directing Brass Tracks and Brass Roots, Andrew is also Assistant Musical Director of Alford Silver Band where he also puts pen to paper, arranging and composing music for the band.
